Itinerary

Explore Kerry’s Gems while staying at the luxurious 4* Cahernane House Hotel. After your arrival, if you are not too tired from your journey, we do recommend you take a bike trip and start exploring the amazing Killarney National Park. We will provide you with a detailed map for your cycle. Finish your evening with an outstanding 4-course meal at your hotel.

A visit to the Dingle Peninsula, should not be missed on your travels throughout Kerry. It is one of the few places in Ireland, where historical traditional structures of such magnitude remain. Many famous literary and musical works also hail from the region. A barefoot walk along the sand on Inch Strand with the biting fresh sea air and a fantastic backdrop will invigorate you along the way. Your drive along Slea Head will take you along the cliff edge where unbelievably picturesque coastal landscapes, buildings from times past and the outline of the Great Blasket Islands, offer amazing photo opportunities.

In the lively harbour town of Dingle, there are numerous restaurants where you can try freshly caught fish or hunt for treasures in the many art and craft shops scattered throughout the town. You can even say “hello” to one of the most famous residents of Dingle, Fungi the dolphin, who has lived in the waters around Dingle since the early 80s and is the oldest (and in our humble opinion, the friendliest) wild solitary dolphin in the world!

We recommend that all Whiskey, Gin and Vodka fans visit the Dingle Distillery – a small but internationally renowned distillery.

Today you’ll explore further parts of the Killarney National Park after a hearty breakfast. We recommend that you drive to Muckross House and Gardens and explore the parkland area around the house before you walk down to Dundag Pier. From there we have organised a boat, which will bring you on a 20-minute trip across Muckross Lake toward Dinis Cottage. Originally built as a hunting lodge, it has hosted the likes of Queen Victoria and her cohorts! Today though, it is you who will be served, and you can enjoy tea and scones while overlooking the lake.

Afterwards, stretch your legs with a short stroll to the Meeting of the Waters. You will be collected again from Dinis Pier and brought back to Muckross House by boat. From here you can walk to Muckross Abbey and explore its 15th century ruins, take a jaunting cart through the park or just relax on the green. If you’re feeling like a swim, take a dip at Dundag – it might get a little nippy though!

Collect your Luxury Dinner Package created by a top rated restaurant in Killarney town and drive up to Aghadoe Viewing Point where you can take in the picture perfect Killarney National Park from another angle, while enjoying your meal ”al fresco”. You might even be able to enjoy a wonderful sunset over the imposing mountains and reflective Lakes of Killarney.

You will have noticed the imposing MacGillycuddy Reeks to the rear of the hotel and it is there you will be hiking today. ‘Corrán Tuathail’ holds claim to the highest point in Ireland with a height of 1,039 m (approx. 12 km hike) and you will be lead up the rugged slopes, at a pace suited to you, by your private guide. The ascent will take between 4-6 hours depending on weather conditions and pace. Your experienced guide will consult with you in advance, regarding the terrain conditions as well as the most appropriate gear for your climb. Make sure to take your camera as the views are out of this world.

In the early evening, you can once again sample some seafood so fresh, it nearly jumps off the plate, at one of the best seafood restaurants in Kerry. If you are in the mood for something a little different, there are many excellent restaurants available offering a range of exciting dishes.

Just a short 40-minute drive away, lies the little harbour village Fenit, a hidden gem in Tralee Bay along the Wild Atlantic Way. From there you will take a unique 15-minute boat trip through awe-inspiring scenery to the Little Samphire Island Lighthouse and be guided on a journey through its significant past. The whole experience will undoubtedly make your trip to Fenit memorable.

In the afternoon you will have time to explore the many hidden beaches of North Kerry before you finish your trip with a splendid afternoon tea in a fabulous mystery location (maps will be provided).

After breakfast, there is still time for a stroll the gardens before you check out and make your way back home. We hope you had a wonderful time and will come back soon…
